Krakow

What to do in Krakow:

Kraków combines centuries of Polish history with a lively contemporary atmosphere. The city’s historic core centers on the enormous Rynek Główny, surrounded by landmarks such as St. Mary’s Basilica, the Cloth Hall, and the medieval streets of the Old Town. Wawel Castle rises above the Vistula River, while the former Jewish district of Kazimierz is known for its synagogues, atmospheric courtyards, independent restaurants, and cafés. Across the river, Podgórze offers another perspective on Kraków’s past, alongside museums and riverside walking areas.

A rental car makes it possible to explore the landscapes and historic towns surrounding the city. The Tatra Mountains and Zakopane lie to the south, offering mountain scenery and outdoor activities, while the wooded valleys and limestone formations of Ojców National Park are much closer to Kraków. Wieliczka is home to its remarkable historic salt mine, and the rolling countryside around the city contains castles, villages, and viewpoints worth discovering. Further west, the former industrial city of Katowice provides a contrasting urban experience. Kraków works equally well for a short cultural getaway or as the starting point for a wider journey through southern Poland.
