      Madrid

      What to do in Madrid:

Madrid is Spain’s central capital, known for grand boulevards, elegant plazas, historic neighborhoods, and a lively social scene that continues well into the evening. The Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor anchor the historic center, while the nearby Mercado de San Miguel provides a chance to sample Spanish dishes and local specialties under one roof. The city also has an exceptional collection of European art, with the Prado Museum, Reina Sofía, and Thyssen-Bornemisza forming the famous “Golden Triangle of Art.”

Green spaces give Madrid another dimension, particularly the expansive El Retiro Park, where tree-lined paths, gardens, and the Crystal Palace offer a break from the busy streets. Neighborhoods such as Malasaña, Chueca, and La Latina bring their own mix of cafés, tapas bars, boutiques, and nightlife. Food is central to the experience, from traditional cocido madrileño and jamón ibérico to churros and late-night tapas. Outside the capital, historic cities such as Toledo and Segovia make rewarding day trips, while the Sierra de Guadarrama provides opportunities for hiking and mountain scenery.
