      Queenstown

      What to do in Queenstown:

Queenstown sits beside Lake Wakatipu beneath the dramatic Southern Alps, with a landscape that has made it one of New Zealand’s best-known adventure destinations. The compact town center is filled with restaurants, cafés, bars, and outdoor outfitters, while the lakefront provides striking views of the surrounding peaks. The Skyline Queenstown gondola climbs above town for panoramic scenery, and the region is renowned for activities ranging from bungee jumping and jet boating to hiking and mountain biking. In winter, ski fields around Coronet Peak and The Remarkables draw visitors to the mountains.

Queenstown is also an excellent starting point for exploring the South Island by road. The route to Glenorchy follows the edge of Lake Wakatipu through some of the region’s most spectacular scenery, while Arrowtown offers a historic gold-mining village atmosphere among the surrounding hills. Wanaka lies across the Crown Range, with its own alpine lake and mountain trails, and the Central Otago region is known for vineyards and open landscapes. Longer journeys can continue toward Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound, where rugged peaks, waterfalls, and rainforest create an entirely different environment.
