Geneva sits at the western tip of Lake Geneva, surrounded by the Alps and Jura Mountains. The city has a distinctly international character, with organizations such as the United Nations and the International Red Cross based here, while its historic center rises above the lake through narrow streets and elegant squares. St. Pierre Cathedral is one of the main landmarks, and the nearby Old Town is filled with cafés, galleries, independent stores, and centuries-old buildings.
