      Brindisi

      What to do in Brindisi:

Brindisi sits on the Adriatic coast of Puglia, where a natural harbor has connected the city with the Mediterranean for thousands of years. The waterfront remains central to local life, with boats moving through the port and promenades lined with cafés and restaurants. In the historic center, Roman columns, medieval churches, and narrow streets reflect the city's long history as an important gateway between Italy and the eastern Mediterranean.

The Castello Alfonsino stands at the entrance to the harbor on a small island, while the Church of Santa Maria del Casale and the archaeological remains scattered around the city add further layers to Brindisi's past. Puglia's cuisine is another attraction, with orecchiette, burrata, fresh seafood, focaccia, and locally produced olive oil featuring prominently on regional menus. Brindisi also provides an excellent starting point for exploring Salento, with the whitewashed streets of Ostuni, the baroque architecture of Lecce, and the beaches of the Adriatic and Ionian coasts all within driving distance. Small villages and centuries-old olive groves fill the countryside between them.
